Forget the Eee PC – here's a brand new laptop for just £100


When the Eee PC came out last year, it changed the market for laptop PCs forever. People no longer had to spend their life savings to get a basic, but decent laptop.

The Eee PC costs as little as £180 and was designed with school kids in mind, but adults have gone out in their droves and bought it instead, appreciating its small size and low weight which makes it ideal for working on the move; its long battery life; and – of course – its low price.

Now, though, Elonex is hoping to take the Eee PC’s crown with its own ultra-portable and ultra-cheap laptop, the One, which is also aimed at kids, but will no doubt appeal more to adults.


It’s got a 7-inch screen, wireless capabilities, a 2GB flash hard drive, a battery which promises three hours of use, and weighs just 1Kg – about the same as the Eee PC – and it should cost just under £100, making it the cheapest laptop you can buy right now.

Unfortunately it’s not running Windows Vista – instead opting for Linux, the open source operating system – but as time goes on, and technology gets smaller and cheaper, we may see a 2nd generation of the £100 laptop that comes with a stripped-down version of Windows Vista, such as Windows Vista Home Basic. Then we'll really be looking forward to it!
